    PIECES afterschool program will spend the 2nd Saturday of the month at Starr's Cave Nature Center. FREE activities for K-8th grade students and their families from 9:00 - Noon. This program repeats every month from Sep- May.

  2. Scheduling second semester field trips and classroom programs

    Interested in bringing a class or group out to Starr’s Cave for a field trip? We will start scheduling field trips and programs for the Second semester (Jan-May.) on December 16. Call or stop in the Nature Center to schedule a program (319) 753-5808. If you can’t make it out to Starr’s Cave for a field trip, don’t worry, we can always come to you! We have many programs written and ready for the classroom. We can help build on science topics you are already discussing in your classrooms. We have furs, skulls, tracks, fake scat (animal droppings), fossils, bird study skins, and an insect collection (just to name a few items) that we would love to share with your students.   3. Parent-Tot Program

    December 18, 2019, 10:00 AM - 11:00 AM

    On Wednesday, December 18th, youngsters are invited to Starr’s Cave Park and Preserve for a program all about animal habitats! Along with their parents, grandparents, or other guardians, tots will learn about animals and their habitats. This one-hour interactive program is geared toward 2-4-year olds. Beginning at 10:00 a.m., families will meet at Starr’s Cave Nature Center. Then Des Moines County Conservation Naturalist Kelly Rundell will lead the program which will include a hike, hands-on activities, and maybe even a story! The Parent-Tot Program at Starr’s Cave Park and Preserve runs from 10:00 a.m. to 11:00 am. on Wednesday, December 18th and is for children between the ages of 2-4. Please dress appropriately, as these activities will take place outside. Register by calling (319) 753-5808. Hurry, only a limited number of spots are available! The next Parent-Tot Program will be on Wednesday, January 22nd and will be about Eagles.

  4. Winter School's Out Camp

    Ages: 7-9 Join Starr’s Cave Nature Center Staff for a winter camp! Learn about winter survival, fire building, animal tracking and more! A hotdog lunch is provided. Registration is required. Call 319-753-5808 to register. Please dress appropriately, as these activities will take place outside.
